How fees work

We don't contract with insurance companies. Here is how paying works, in the order most patients ask.

  • If you pay yourself

Most patients pay at the visit, or join a yearly plan for routine care. The plan is a set price, it is not insurance, and its terms are on the plans page. Financing is offered by third-party lenders. Approval and terms are set by the lender.

    • The family or gum-care plan, for routine visits

  • An estimate in advance

You can ask for a written estimate before any treatment. If you're paying without insurance, we give you a written estimate in advance, when you schedule or whenever you ask. It lists each step we expect and the fee for each.

    • Written, before treatment

    • Each step and its fee

    • Take it home before you decide

  • Insurance we work with

We are out of network with every plan, because we don't contract with insurance companies. We don't file claims. If your plan reimburses out-of-network care, our receipt lets you ask it to pay you back, and the plan decides what it covers. We are not enrolled with Medicaid or CHIP.

  • Receipts for reimbursement

After each visit we give you an itemized receipt. You can send it to a plan that reimburses out-of-network care. Whether the plan pays, and how much, is the plan's decision.

    • Itemized, every visit

    • Procedure codes on request

  • Checking your benefits

We don't check benefits, because we don't bill plans. If your plan reimburses out-of-network care, call the number on your card and ask what it pays for a dentist outside its network. We'll give you the procedure codes for your visit if you ask.

    • Call the number on your card

    • Ask about out-of-network dentists

  • What the first visit includes

About an hour: a talk about what worries you, an exam by Dr. Maeda, X-rays only if he needs them and a written estimate before any treatment. If you're driving in, tell us and we'll book around it. Fill in your health history on our private patient portal, not by email or in the contact form.

    • A talk, then an exam

    • X-rays only if needed
