About us

Cleanings and exams

A cleaning removes plaque and hardened tartar from your teeth and just under the gum, and the exam is the dentist's look at the whole mouth.

A routine visit is for anyone with healthy gums who wants to stay that way. Your hygienist cleans and the dentist examines; if something needs treatment, you hear about it that day, in plain words.

  • Exam by the dentist

  • X-rays on the schedule your dentist sets

Services

What happens at a visit

Plan on one visit of about an hour, and one trip for the family if you ask us to book you together.

  • 01

    We talk first

You tell us what you've noticed and what you'd like to know. We listen before anyone picks up an instrument.

  • 02

    The cleaning

Your hygienist removes buildup and polishes. It usually takes about half an hour.

  • 03

    The exam

Dr. Maeda checks your teeth, gums and bite and tells you what he sees, one finding at a time.

  • 04

    X-rays, if needed

We take them when the dentist needs them for the exam, not on a fixed calendar.

Comfort, choices and care

  • Comfort

Tell your hygienist if anything is tender. We stop when you raise a hand, and we can numb the area if the dentist agrees it's needed.

  • If you wait

Buildup that stays on your teeth can irritate the gums. The dentist will tell you what he sees and how soon it matters.

  • Risks and after-care

Gums can feel tender for a day. Floss and brush as usual. Call us if tenderness lasts or bleeding doesn't stop.

  • How it's billed

The family plan covers two cleanings and two exams a year for each person. Without the plan, you get the fee in writing before the visit.

Questions about cleanings

How often should I come?

Your dentist decides, based on your teeth and gums. Many people come twice a year, and some need to come more often.

Will I need X-rays every time?

No. We take them when the dentist needs them for your exam.

Does the cleaning hurt?

Some people feel pressure or tenderness. Tell your hygienist and we'll slow down, take a break or talk about numbing.

What if the exam finds a problem?

We explain it, show you the options and what each costs, and give you the estimate in writing. You decide when to go ahead.
